Clovis Salmon OBE TPOAM 2024 Lifetime Award
At 97, Clovis Salmon OBE Esq. stands as a revered icon in British history. In 1954, he heeded Britain’s call for help from Commonwealth countries to aid in rebuilding the ‘Mother Country,’ leaving his homeland to support war-torn Britain. Little did he know that his legacy would extend far beyond bricks and mortar, and that he would become an iconic figure in the Windrush generation and in British society. Known as ‘Sam The Wheels,’ Clovis is celebrated as a Windrush pioneer, cycling technician, retired minister, archivist, and the UK’s first major Black documentary filmmaker. His films capture the lives and culture of Black Britons from the 1950s to the present, including the 1981 Brixton Uprising.

Patrick Hutchinson

Fredi Nwaka Award 2024

Author, Personal Trainer, Public Figure & Co Founder of pHKind

Born in Coventry to a single mother from Jamaica of the Windrush generation, Patrick grew up on a council estate in Battersea with his mother and sister. After becoming a father at the age of 20 he abandoned any hopes of going to university to go into full-time employment so he could provide for his son. He too like his mother became a single parent raising his son with the help of his mother and sister whilst working in the city of London in IT for various investment banks for 25yrs. He then became a personal trainer and children’s athletics coach. Not as much money but so much more personal fulfilment.

Now a father of 4 and a grandfather of 4. Fast forward to June 13th 2020, Patrick’s life changed forever, where he will be etched in the history of this country.

Professor Kavin Andi

Award winning facial surgeon who became the UK’s youngest ever qualified Consultant in his field. Amazing husband and father of three. Kavin came to the UK as a refugee aged just 6 years old having fled the dictatorship in Uganda. He was raised in Eltham and in the same school year as Stephen Lawrence (whose senseless murder marked a tide of change), at school. On 22nd April 1993, the day of Stephen’s murder, Kavin was on the bus behind him. We often wonder whether this is a key source to Kavin’s incredible drive and energy. Kavin is also a lawyer, electrician, tiler, Professor of digital surgery and is now studying for his pilot’s licence.

Leroy Logan OBE

Honorary Award 2024

Leroy is one of UK’s most highly decorated and well-known black police officers. A highly respected and well-regarded commentator on policing and wider social justice issues, he believes there is still much work to do in creating a more equitable and fair criminal justice system, therefore he continues with his acts of public service since his retirement. Leroy captured his engaging life journey in his award winning autobiography ‘Closing Ranks: My Life as a Cop’. The early chapters were depicted in ‘Red, White and Blue’, the Golden Globe and BAFTA winning episode of director Sir Steve McQueen’s acclaimed BBC1 ‘Small Axe’ series. He continues to use his four decades of experience to give insightful, critical analysis on current events surrounding the UK justice system. Consequently, he’s been continually called upon by the likes of News Night, Channel 4 News, The Guardian, Sky, BBC Radio 4, HARDTalk and many more.

Reverend Michael King

Honorary Award 2024

Reverend Michael king is a dedicated community leader historian and a public speaker, with a lifelong commitment to youth empowerment and social impact, a Pioneer in the UK’s first youth unemployment project at Chestnut Lodge youth club In Tulse Hill. He has set a lasting standard for community and driven initiatives. As a historian, Michael frequently speaks on black British history and legacy of the Windrush generation, (his father is the founder Sam king) fostering understanding and connection across the communities. From that, he became a trustee to Black Heroes Foundation. Ordained as both reverend and an apostle his faith drives his advocates.

Chris Preddie OBE

Chris Preddie OBE

Speaker, Mentor, Creator

Chris’s career as a leader and pillar of the community spans over more than a decade. Coming from less than humble beginnings, he has carved out a path for himself that has led to him working in schools, colleges, prisons, PRU’s and any environment where there is a need for a light to be shone on a positive path. He faced many barriers, such as poverty, conflict with family, autoimmune disease, negative self image and being challenged with dyslexia in an unsupportive system. Yet against those odds, he worked with the likes of Crimestoppers, BBC, PFA, and Premier league kicks to name a few, delivering outstanding work for young people and the community at large.

Tunde Okewale

Barrister

Dr. Tunde Okewale OBE is an award-winning barrister and a leading figure in social entrepreneurship, renowned for his advocacy and commitment to justice. Originating from a Hackney council estate, he achieved distinction at Doughty Street Chambers. Specialising in serious and financial crimes, he has significantly influenced legal reforms and represented diverse clients, including helping overturn Dwaine George’s wrongful conviction.

KEVIN BENNETT

Mental & Emotional Strategist, Author

Kevin Bennett, a renowned Mental and Emotional Strategist and author of “Who Helps The Helpline, When The Helpline Needs HELP?”, has dedicated his life to teaching people how to manage and combat chronic stress, depression, and trauma while maintaining excellence under extreme circumstances. Bennett’s expertise and work are deeply personal, having endured significant tragedies including being stabbed four times on separate occasions, the murder of his brother, the deaths of two other siblings, his father’s battle with cancer, and the loss of his son.

For more than 3 decades ‘Tony DADA’ has been nurturing, empowering and investing in talented people. Through his heart-centred, purpose-driven companies he has provided a launchpad for thousands of creatives with an entrepreneurial spirit from marginalised sections of society across the UK, e.g women, ethnic minority groups, young people, and social entrepreneurs.

His platforms have been used by artists to hone their craft in the early stages of their career. These include Floetry, Meggaman and “Swiss” from “The So Solid Crew”, Freddie “Kruga’’ Nwaka, Gospel artist Raymond & Co and Lurine Cato, Comedians Gina Yashere, Richard Blackwood and Rudi Lickwood, singers including Alexandra Burke and JLS to name a few. What is remarkable is he did this whilst raising two young children as a single parent.

I have worked my way up in the film industry right from the bottom as a security guard and body guard. Even though I am heavily dyslexic and have ADHD I now run one of the most successful security and logistics companies in TV and film.

I employ a vast number of staff from all backgrounds and cultures. Using my learned experience I have encouraged and mentored 15 of my staff (and counting) to fast track them to the point where they have their own businesses with their own staff.

I am also an associate producer and executive producer in films and TV with a view to producing in the near future.

Ewan is a TKD master, a successful businessman, a skilful mentor and a respected community leader. To get to where he is today, along with the challenges and responsibilities of founding, growing and running a successful business, he’s faced personal challenges and also as a man of colour confronted racism and prejudice.

Ewan now puts what he’s learned into action in his work with clients of all ages, from young people looking for their path in life, for people in business who want to achieve in the workplace and many who are looking for the sense of personal direction and purpose which the martial arts can bring.

His words flow effortlessly, painting vivid pictures and invoking deep emotions within his audiences.

In addition to his success as a spoken word artist, Terrell is also highly regarded as a workshop facilitator. With a natural gift for teaching and inspiring others, he has conducted numerous workshops, empowering individuals to find their voice and express themselves through the power of words. Terrell’s ability to create a safe and nurturing space for self-expression and growth has made him a sought-after facilitator in various communities, businesses and organisations.

Dr. Raphael Sofoluke is a renowned entrepreneur, author, and visionary. He is recognised for his transformative initiatives, including the UK Black Business Show, UK Black Business Week, Birmingham Black Business Show, Black Tech Achievement Awards in the UK and US, and Soar, a bank-backed membership platform for Black entrepreneurs.

Founded in 2017, the UK Black Business Show became a cornerstone event during Black History Month and was endorsed by prominent figures like London Mayor Sadiq Khan and MP David Lammy. The event highlights Black-owned businesses and professionals and offers valuable insights from leading Black business figures.

Co-founder & Chief Executive of ACLT

Orin Lewis OBE is the co-founder and CEO (alongside his wife Beverley De-Gale, OBE) of the 44 times award winning UK charity, the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) which was founded in June 1996, after they received the devastating news that their 8-year-old son Daniel De-Gale, needed a life-saving stem cell (bone marrow) transplant to win his three-year battle against leukaemia. Through the charity, Orin channelled his anxiety into the goal of creating a better future for people suffering with leukaemia and other blood-related disorders. He is dedicated to raising the awareness of the shortage of Black and Ethnic Minority donors on the UK stem cell (bone marrow), blood and organ registers and recruits potential donors to offer hope and a healthy future to someone whose disorder may otherwise prove fatal.

Andrez Harriott BSc, MA is the CEO and Founder of The Liminality Group (TLG) of companies. He is a trained Criminologist, Sociologist and Organisational Consultant, trained within the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, specialising in the use of Systemic and Psychodynamic approaches helping organisations to engage beyond their accepted narrative and explore beneath their surfaces.

The Liminality Group (TLG) are a leading specialist provider delivering behavioural change and psychologically informed services for children and young adults within both community and custodial settings. We provide early intervention strategies to children at risk within socially disorganised communities and have supported over 1000 children to remain within education through mentoring and psychologically informed interventions to raise aspirations and keep children from disadvantaged communities safe. Each year TLG delivers residential breaks and work experience opportunities for the same cohort.

Entrepreneur & Founder of Charles Gordon Trust

Charles Gordon became an entrepreneur at the age of 19, by setting up his own estate agency, then moved into the field of property development and established a multi-million-pound property portfolio, as well as building and refurbishing properties across the UK.

Charles then turned his hand to the music industry, having success with a number of acts and established a strong foothold in the UK industry; Charles was actively developing and managing solo acts, creating groups and working with major labels as well as independently releasing records. From there, Charles went on to become an author and published a business self-help guide called ‘The Secrets of Empowerment’.

King Rezz is a dynamic force in the Black community, a UK Music artist whose mission goes far beyond music. With every beat of his African drum, and lyrical punch lines he acknowledges the heritage of his ancestors as he unites, uplifts, and inspires. His music isn’t just sound—it’s a call to action, a reminder of the strength, resilience, and realism embedded in Black culture.

King Rezz’s impact reaches far beyond the stage. As a community activist, he is deeply committed to driving positive change globally, particularly within black communities. He has volunteered in Gambia and has since returned 5x. His work as a Special Educational Needs worker (SEN) and Youth Worker is a testament to his dedication to nurturing the potential of our young people, especially those facing the most significant challenges.

My name is Albert Mensah aka Trebla, artist & entrepreneur. I am also the founder of Fortune Favours Productions, a production company built to help individuals, businesses and organisations tell their stories through the power of audio and visual media production. Coming from a big family that didn’t have much to begin with, life growing up was not easy, but seeing how my parents found a way to provide for my siblings and I, no matter the circumstances, gave me the motivation from a young age to work hard, do my part and support those around me. Music was a form of escapism but also my first love. As a creative I have always been committed to quality in my work and appreciation for art in all its forms.

Founder of Doc Hearts, multiple award winning producer/director Andy Mundy-Castle is known for making high end content that authentically represents the African diaspora with immediacy, sophistication and scale. With over 15 years of experience in the industry. Ex BBC staff Mundy-Castle is the owner and creator of the IP Go Green With The Grimwades, Reu & Harpers Wonderworld, The Black Lesbian Handbook, Britains Abandoned Playgrounds and the standout MIPCOM hit show What Did I Do Last Night? He also counts Nike, Barclays, Canon, British Airways, JP Morgan and Apple as clients of his branded work. 

From the award winning Lenny Henry The Commonwealth Kid (BBC1),  the critically acclaimed BAFTA WINNING White Nanny Black Child (BFI / Channel 5), Jimmy Akingbola Handle WIth Care (Peacock / ITV) Charlene White Empires Child (ITV), to the The Fade (streaming on Netflix), Mundy-Castle’s dedication to profiling black voices has been regarded highly as work that documents the African diasporas experience with depth and style.

My name is Cameron Sheridan, and I am a 19-year-old Black Caribbean and African student currently pursuing a degree in Economics at Birkbeck University. I grew up in Dagenham and now live in South Ockendon. My childhood was challenging, as I struggled with ADHD and was often excluded from the classroom, spending much of my time in isolation.

Teachers wrote me off early on, damaging my self-esteem and belief in myself. Despite these adversities, I am proud to have completed my A-levels in Business, Banking & Finance, and Media Studies, and to be continuing my education at university.

The Power of a Man – Boys 2 Men Category Winner

Actor & Role Model

My name is Tai Nwaka and if you haven’t already guessed, Fredi Nwaka is my father. Most would say a hard foot step to follow but for me, I consider myself blessed to have such a great role model. I was given 1 minute to live as I was born with a severe heart defect called Hypo Plastic Left Heart Syndrome. 3 open heart surgeries later I have made it to 17.

I am not very academic but have a zest for music and acting where I excel. I’ve featured in a number of Film projects and I’m excited for what the future holds. I am also working on my first EP called ‘Born 2WICE’ as i feel I’ve been given a second chance at life.

I really want to use some of my past experiences to help deter young people from getting involved in gangs and crime.

ON BEING A BLACK MAN… “For me, it means I will always be a target to the police. It also means I’ll be judged and looked at in a certain way. Although it is hard, I use it as motivation for my talent and work.”
